« Nous avons demandé à Maria, qui travaille à la campagne, de raconter la mort de notre grand mère à la première personne (comme si elle racontait sa propre mort). Notre grand mère, ouvrière du sud de l’Italie, est morte à 33 ans le 14 mai 1958, après une fausse couche. Elle était communiste, mais aussi chrétienne. La famille voulait donc un enterrement religeux, refusé par le prêtre et l'évêque. A travers les mots de Maria, nous avons essayé de redonner une spiritualité à la mort de notre grand mère. En outre, Maria raconte dans le détail les moments avant et après l'enterrement. Elle répond enfin à nos questions sur la sensation physique, les visions, les images, l'espace et la durée de "sa" mort, en y apportant un sens plus mystique. Le film est en cela aussi son portrait. »

« We asked Maria, who works in the country, to tell us about our grand-mother’s death in the first person (as if it was her own death). Our grand-mother was a worker in southern Italy, she died aged 33 on 14th May 1958, after a miscarriage. She was a communist, but also a Christian. So the family wanted a religious funeral, denied by the priest and the Bishop. Through Maria’s words, we tried to give back a spirituality to the death of our grand-mother. Besides, Maria recounts in details the moments before and after the funeral. She finally answers our questions on the physical sensation, visions, images, space and length of “her” death, bringing a more mystical meaning to it. Therefore the film is also her portrait. »
